RE: Need help identifying rear ports on new vostro

The diagram on the website doesn't match your description, so I'm
guessing. The two light one could either be eSata (as previously
posted) or possibly a gigabit ethernet card.

The two connectors with the DVI connector would be s-video (possibly
even a dongle for component) and a VGA connector.

I have to ask how they cheated you out of 'extra USB slots). Do you
mean USB connectors? The machine comes with 8 (4 front, 4 back). Seems
pretty reasonable to me and it isn't like you get to specify USB ports.
It is what it is and you could (or should) have known before purchase.

Just curious.

Subject: Need help identifying rear ports on new vostro

I just bought a Dell Vostro 200 from the Dell Website.
Along with cheating me out of a full gig of ram, Dell also
cheated me out of the 2 extra USB slots I ordered.

However, my main problem is trying to identify some of the ports
they have on the back of my machine. (Forget asking me about Dell
instructions. The are almost totally nonexistent. They detail very
little about what is on the rear of my machine, and I do not want
to go around in circles talking to Dell tech support in Bangladesh
or wherever.)

Can anyone with a Dell Vostro 200 help me figure out the rear
ports on this machine?

I ordered it without a modem. So there is no modem connector.

In the bottom slot are 2 IEEE 1394 connectors. I know what these are.

The second slot up from the bottom is empty.

3 slots up from bottom is a connector with a green LED next to it.
(It is not a USB connector. I have no idea what this slot is for.)

4 slots up from bottom. There are two connectors alongside the white
DVI cable slot. (They are not USB. They are also different from each
other. I have no idea what they are for.)

I hope someone knows. I'd hate to have to bring a new machine
into a local repair shop and spend a $50 or so for the mope behind
the counter to tell me he also doesn't know.

I *really* hope someone can figure this out.

(Yes, I did go item by item in the packing slip, but the packing slip
is also wrong. Too late too smart about Dell. Never again.)
