Yes, one way or another I am sure you can get it working. I can't
imagine what your ISP is doing beyond something like DHCP, which you
are probably already using. (If not, Windows Me--and all versions of
Windows back to WfWG 3.11 with the TCP/IP add on--can certainly
support that with a simple configuration change in the network
configuration control panel.) With DHCP, the client pulls down its
configuration info (IP address, gateway IP address, DNS servers) from
the ISP and "leases" this information for a period of time. When the
lease runs up, your computer just goes out and gets new information
from the DHCP server.
If you end up needing to use different DNS servers, I would suggest
using OpenDNS. (I've been using them for a while now and have been
very happy with their service.) Setting DNS servers manually on
Windows Me is accomplished by going into the Network Control Panel,
finding TCP/IP, and looking for the DNS tab.
But seriously--maybe you should consider an upgrade to Windows XP. I'm
very certain that your copy of Windows Me is going to go "boom" any
minute and leave you without a computer. With some more memory (that
you could probably find cheap on the secondhand market, unless its
RAMBUS memory or something...) you could comfortable run XP on that
system. (I'm typing this on a Dell Dimension L566cx right now that is
running XP Pro SP3, and it works fine.)
