Re: Need new computer

YESSSSSSSSSSS

Good processor, you'll be able to use 3GB of the 4GB of RAM, giving
you an extra GB over the 2GB systems.

Good sized primary hard disk drive.

Adequate video card

You've got your DVD ROM and DVD Burner so if you copy DVDs you're set
for that.

Excellent system, good price.

Hi, I would get one with a more powerful processor. The cache on the
6400 is 2MB. I recommend one with at least a 4MB cache. There are
some newer Core 2's with 3MB cache, those would be OK too IMO.

I won't be in the market for a desktop for a few years at least
because my Core 2 Duo w 4MB cache is powerful enough.

However, if I were buying a new computer now, I would look at what the
quads have to offer. I'd either get a Core 2 with 4MB cache or one of
the new ones with 3MB cache or 6MB cache, OR I'd get a quad, and if
there are advantages to a quad I'd go strongly in that direction.

Also, I would consider whether a 64 bit OS and additional RAM would
meet my needs better, or if it would be overkill. Likely overkill,
but Bob Levine here has said good things about 64 bit Windows (Vista I
think but maybe XP, hopefully he can chime in).

I'll look at the outlet and see if I can find any good deals .....
