The integrated video works fine with Vista.
That was really the reason for posting. I wondered how well Aero
worked with integrated video, for a non-gaming machine.
His purchase would include minimum 2GB ram, and (probably) either the
T2370 (1.73/533/1mb cache) or the T5550 (1.83/66/2mb cache).
Beware of the new generation 1510 and 1710 Vostros as well as the XPS
laptops - no integrated modem. Dell apparently thinks nobody needs
dial-up any more when they travel...guess you're only supposed to
travel to cities where you can get wireless connections.

A friend is looking at Inspiron laptops, and will buy in the next
month or so, so I've been curious about what configurations are
currently available myself. I haven't kept up with the Inspiron line
of laptops, but I do check them once in a while, and just when I think
I've got the line figured out, something changes.
It looks like the 1525 line comes with the 1280x800 screen, and Vista,
and no video card.
It looks like the 1520 line comes with either the 1280x800 or 1440x900
screen, and XP Home, and no video card.
Neither line allows changing operating systems (XP vs Vista).
Ok, fine, but what I don't understand is that neither one has the
option of adding a video card. They all come with the built in Intel
X3100 video. If you want a separate card, Dell suggests you go XPS.
I *think* I remember once upon a time when you could add discrete
video (as recently as a week ago?). And with all the hype about how
with Vista you really needed a separate video card to run Vista
Aero...why in the world is Dell not making that claim now with the
1525 Vista only line?
Is it just me that thinks this is nuts?
