I suspect that was a situation where the store didn't have a selling
agreement with Dell. They likely just bought them and resold them for a
profit. In that situation, Dell would consider the store the purchaser.

Subject: Re: XPS 420 at WalMart
I ran across it in one of the Dell Forums a while back, but now I
can't
find the reference. I whish I could.
if I recall, the person having a problem with his Dell had bought it
from a
local retail store (This may have been in the UK), and was forced to
return
the PC to the retail store for repair rather than to Dell.
The really strange part was when It was pointed out that as far as
was<tjscales@xxxxxxxxx>
concerned, the PC was registered to the retail store as being the
actual
owner, and not the end user.
It was as though dell 'sold' the PC to the retail store and from that
point
on, it was up to the retail store to provide any further support.
In the original message thread on the Dell forum, it was asked of Dell
if
this indeed was the case, and Dell responded that yes, that was the
standard
arrangement with any retail store.
It sounded like Dell was acting as an OEM supplier in a way.
Damn I wish I could find the original thread on the Dell forum.
The fact that it sounded so strange is why I remember it.

One possible thing to consider.
I expect that in accordance with standard Dell rules, and Dell that
andpurchased from a retail out will be supported by that retail outlet
not by Dell directly.

Not a fantastic price, but not bad for something you can take home
inyou.
I was surprised to see the XPS models at a discount store.
Next time I'm in Walmart I'll have to check to see if this is true
walkmy area or just yours. I agree with you that it's a nice way to
out with a system right away.
