It's ironic that for all its graphical wonders, XP and Vista both still rely on
an IPCONFIG command executed in a DOS box to find out the router's gateway

ways, but what ever happened to the simple little WINIPCFG of Windows 95/98/ME?
Same is true for a lot of other network oriented commands like PING and TRACERT.
Oh, how silly of me! People don't need to know any of this stuff because
Windows networking is wonderful and seamless and foolproof... Ben Myers
Truth be told, I did ipconfig /all to help get my ip address and I
could ping it but not open a window when I tried to browse that same
ip address. If I recall in the past, if you could ping it, usually
meant a software setup problem so that was the reason I took off my
firewall but it didn't help. I hesitate to unwire my router from the
dsl modem/router to try again to browse my router because right now
all is well as far as internet and file sharing and I don't want to
(murphy's law) mess that up :( . Another thing I could do but
hesitate for the same reason is unplug my router and reset it to
default values and then try to ping / browse it.
This I admit is a minor problem but just one of those things that bug
me when I find a problem (minor or major). thanks.
