I am clueless, for the most part, about RSS.
RSS = "Really Simple Syndication"?
A looong time ago I bought a license to something called Feed Demon,
and it somehow integrated into NewsGator. That's where I started to
get lost.
Now, it seems like so many things (e-mail programs, etc) can "do RSS".
I don't want to read RSS feeds using something like e-mail if there's
a better way to do it with a more dedicated tool.
Also, what is Atom? Is that it, or is there another technology in
addition to RSS and Atom?
I want to know THE BEST way to read RSS feeds in a timely fashion, and
THE BEST way to find useful RSS feeds.
The ones I would want the most are:
- News. Simple, not through endless loops on cable TV. Straight to
the point, good new summaries.
- Apple. I have about 10 links where I can go for Apple information.
I don't want to go to 10 links. I want one area where all the
articles are.
- Technology. What company owns what. I barely caught that Adobe
bought Macromedia. I'm not a corporate programmer with magazines
streaming across my desk. I need to get the headlines online and keep
up with them.
- Fun. Beats me... Simple Living, Recipes for someone whose
knowledge of cooking is boiling water and frying eggs. Health Info.
So, as always, I am hoping to find useful pointers to what the best
way to read and find RSS information is.
Thank you.
The way you put it, it sounds easier to just learn what makes women
tick (maybe more useful too in the long run.. maybe short run too?)
than the above <grin>.
I just use the RSS feed in firefox (can't say tho which way is best)
and the feeds I chose were just from articles I read in the past that
I liked which included an RSS feed for that site. I can also do RSS
feeds thru my email but I haven't done that. As to Atom, I haven't
read yet about that but now you have my curiousity so I'll be looking
around for it later.
I'm still exhausted spending about 12 hours in all getting my wireless
setup for dsl to work to my satisfaction and going to Austin to
negotiate a lease for one daughter. With 2 tech calls (which was
ultimately useless) and an exchange of their equipment, bypassing
their builtin router with my old dell 2300 and one purchase of a dsl
alarm filter, I finally got it all to work well. They give you either
a free dsl modem or dsl modem/router (the latter I chose after giving
up on their dsl modem) but both have some quirks which would not work
in my home so using the process of trial and error and creative
thinking I got it all to work as good as my old cablemodem setup. I
just love it when the last tech call I made said "it's beyond our
scope" and "I think your wifi card probably went bad so you need to
call Dell". Imagine that going from quirk to quirk, my wifi card just
happen to fail at the same time <g> ???? One thing he did say to me
in closing... "you sound like you know what you are doing".
Inotherwords, he doesn't have a clue unless it's on his script card
and hopefully with my skills I can solve this on my own. Oh well ...
