Gosh, the tech support is a joke. Today I called them about a problem
with their equipment setup and to make a short story, they (actually a
"he") tells me it is beyond their scope and likely my wifi card is bad
in my laptop (all of a sudden after just a couple of setting changes
on the web browser ... //192.168.1.1). Of course it wasn't bad and I
won't go into all the details but as little as I know about some tech,
I still managed to work it out. Granted I may not be the fastest at
solving these things but with a little knowledge and a lot of patience

because tech support isn't something you can count on (unless perhaps
you pay for it???).

As far as DSL where I live.... so far, my initial impression of DSL is
good. My daughter and I think we will like it better than cablemodem
but time will tell. Seems like less latency and slightly faster but
I'll be happy if it's the same speed and more reliable. Internet in
my house is becoming more of a necessity than a luxury as each year
goes by.

Question: Does DSL ever go down and if so, does it go down while the
phone is up or do both go down together? I don't recall my landline
ever going down in my present home (not a big deal tho nowadays since
having a cell phone).

To answer your question, yes DSL can go down. It's happened to me maybe
3 times. Two of the times, it was just the DSL that went down; last
week the voice line was down but I had DSL until the next day when it
was off too. The tech support folks (AT&T) said it was very unusual to
have DSL w/o voice.

Tom, since we don't probably live too far from each other (relatively
speaking since I'm in Katy), and tho we may have different telcos, do
you know about how long the DSL was down for? Just want to have some
idea for future knowledge.

thanks.
