Thanks for all the advice!!
This is just a great all-purpose computer group!
Anyway, it said it deleted both and put it (a backup copy) in the virus
vault.
I rebooted and ran AVG again and nothing was detected.
Hopefully that's it

Hopefully, one of you folks can help
I ran AVG and it found:
324123[1].html Exploit.anl
sploit[1].anr Exploit.MS05-002

AVG is still running so maybe it will remove it afterwards.
I'm not enamoured of AVG as an anti-virus - up until about 12 months
ago, every machine I ever encountered with AVG installed had at least
two active viruses and / or malware running live in memory.
Not to say it can't sort the problem out, but I wouldn't be surprised
if it can't.
But, if not, how do I remove it?
First of all, clear the web cache - it may simply be in there in an
inactive state.
Second, which browser are you using ? - if you're on IE, consider this
a lesson. Firefox has it's own flaws, but it's generally a whole lot
less likely to give control to an unknown third party than IE !
You can clear the caches without re-running IE by using CrapCleaner
(http://www.ccleaner.com) - it's been in daily use here for about 3
years now, with no adverse issues to my knowledge.
As for free AV apps, Avast has, in my experience, a better detection
rate than AVG. It might not be perfect, but nothing is, but at least
if you need access to certain files that might be detected as
malicious to deal with them, you can disable the damn thing
temporarily.
If you want to be *really* paranoid, try Avira - its' detection rate
is roughly on par with (sometimes better than) Kaspersky, who I also
rate highly.

In the meantime, if you want to do a couple of scans with competing AV
programs, try the Panda Online Scan, and you can also download
Sysclean from Trend Micro - download the executable and the virus
sigs, plonk them in a directory on your desktop, and run from there
(it creates a few temp files as it scans, hence the reason for putting
it in its' own directory)

Sysclean - "If you are not a Trend Micro Customer" is around 3.6Mb
