when you said you reinstalled windows, you used the same harddrive??
did you wipe the entire drive clean, all partitions first, and do a

format? how do you know you dont have a root kit or boot partition
malware??
why dont you get a brand new spare hard drive, and rebuild windows on
there. and then see what happens.

I ran a full virus scan using antivir on all my drives and it didn't
detected anything. I then did the rootkit detection and it didn't find
anything.
I also installed this rootkit detector 'AVG Anti-Virus and Internet
Security - AVG Anti-Rootkit Free Edition'
(http://www.grisoft.com/doc/download-free-anti-rootkit/us/crp/0)
and it didn't find anything.
I'll see what I can do about getting another harddrive.
When I reinstalled I did delete the partition and did a full (not
quick) format using the windows xp cd.
Thanks for the help, i'm at wits end here.
