The only problem you'll likely have is that now that you made that BIOS
change, your Vista hard drive won't boot. You'll have to put it back.
A better approach would have been to download the SATA drivers from Dell
and provide them when XP prompts (F6). You could have left the BIOS
setting alone.
No big deal though. When you swap drives, just change the BIOS.

Subject: Installing XP on a new Vista laptop -XPS1330-
I am not Vista-phobe anymore, but I wish to have XP ready for use in
case old software
should require it.
In fact there are XPdrivers for the 1330 on Dell support. But none for
video or audio.
So I went to intel.com/support. After some search I found an XPdriver
for the G965
graphics, and a driver for Proset wireless .
I also went to sigmatel.com for audio drivers. But there is nothing
there.
So I tried to cheat Dell by downloading the XP audio driver for the
Vostro 1500.
Then I copied all those drivers on a USB flash drive.
To be 100% sure not to damage my good Vista, I removed the original
disk drive with
vista.
Instead of it I mounted a cheap new 80GB drive, just for XP.
I will have to swap drives in case I need to revert from vista to XP
for running old
games.
Remarks about the install:
When running my XPsp2 installCD for the first time, it just said: no
harddrive detected!
So I had a look in the BIOS. You can change the SATA mode from AHCI to
ATA.
It helps.
Now my XPinstall was seeing the drive and the install went on
Then I installed the drivers that I had collected on flash USB.
That was not so difficult.
By now, there is only one ? in my device manager.
Something about High def audio.
But I have normal audio working.
I would appreciate comments from those who have installed XP on vista
laptops.
I am not sure I did it right, but it seems to work.....
.
