Joe:
Very good points, although many will also say I have brand X and I don't
like it because...
We started out looking at a lower price Magellan but chose the better one
because of the bigger screen and a few other features. We don not have the
text to speech feature (that was in the next model up). You make a good
point for this feature.

I suspect most will recommend the brand they have. That makes sense since
they have, hopefully, researched the different brands and models.
There are quite a few places to read reviews about car GPS systems. Two I
like are: http://www.gpsreview.net/ and http://gpsmagazine.com/
The text-to-speech function is a good idea if they will ever drive in city
type areas where there may be multiple choices of streets to turn onto.
That way they don't have to look at the unit and can keep their eyes on
the road (assuming there are street signs).
I decided on the Garmin StreetPilot c550, but many others with fewer
features are quite acceptable.

I'm not sure about posting this question on this group but most of the
you regulars are
very well wired into modern electronic gizmos and such (as I am but on a
greater scale).
I think Dell may even sell these things so it's kind of related.
Anyway, I'm looking to get my two brothers a GPS for their cars this
Christmas. My sister and her husband have the Garmin C340 and love it.
They travel a lot in the South and Mid-West and they say they are very
happy
with it.
What I'm looking to spend on each brother is from $150 to $220 for
each
GPS. Cheaper would be better.
I have been looking at two Garmins - the C340 (the one my sister has)
and the C330. Looks like I can get the C340 for around $220 and the C330
around $180. I've also seen a Tom Tom in Wal Mart for around $160 or so.
So, any suggestions? Are there any good GPS for cars for around $150?
What about those Tom Toms?
What are the main differences between the Garmin 330 and 340? From
what I have read, the 50 feet away" while the Garmin 340 will say "Turn
on
Oak Street 50 feet away." Is the street naming talk will important?
I should say that I'm not looking to buy the best GPS out there. Just
something nice and that works.
Any other suggestions besides the Garmins and Tom Toms?
One final note - the two Garmins I mentions are touch screen. I'm
getting an
Ipod Touch which is also touch screen. Interesting that the toy I want
and toy
I want to get my brothers are both touch screen. It's going to be a
touch screen Christmas!
Thanks!
.
