bought the company. Since then, I get no comfort from the statement by
Seagate
that Maxtor-branded drives will be positioned as a consumer brand. Since
consumer == low quality, Seagate is apparently still selling the cheap
Maxtor
designs to unwitting consumers. Usually drives in an external case have
rubber
grommets as mountings to deaden the vibration and the resulting sound.

Both Fujitsu and Seagate notebook drives have a good reputation for
reliability.
You will find people who swear by one brand or the other... Ben Myers

the HDD,

I have tracked down 2 drives,

Fujitsu 100GB x 5400rpm
Seagate 100GB x 7200rpm

I don't work the comp excessively so the 7200 should not give heat
problems.

so which of the 2 makers should it be.

I have a Seagate in this desktop and while its been Ok it can be heard
when
searching compared to my backup Maxtor's which are quieter.

to clarify, the Maxtors are 3.5" drives in my desktop and over 7 years old
and never given me cause for concern...........I have 4 of them from 80 to
250GB.
