i would suspect that the file is simply in use by some other program.
windows 2000 dose sometimes say 'i/o error' rather than 'file in use.'
restart the computer and try again before starting any other application.
if that dosen't work then tell us exactly what the file is - ie. is it a
outlook or outlook express file?
good luck.
Restarting doesn't help so I guess it can't be in use. The file is a
video (.avi) file.
Thanks.

I am trying to copy a file on the hard disk to another folder on the same
hard
disk. I get the message "Can't Copy 'filename': The Request Could No Be
Performed Because Of an I/O Error." So far it has only happened with one
file.
I'm using Windows 2000 with sp4. I've tried several times and get the same
error
each time. It's a 350MB file and the error occurs after copying around 3/4
of
the file. Other files this size and bigger can be copied with no problem.
I think I had the same error message when copying files from a jump drive
to the
hard disk. After trying a second time I was able to copy the files.
Chkdsk doesn't find any errors on the hard disk. It's a 40GB Maxtor. The
hard
disk is connected to an SIIG Ultra ATA/100 controller (purchased from
Dell). The
drivers for the card are installed.
Does anyone know what could be the cause of this problem and how I can fix
it?
Thanks.
