ALT/f2 turns the wireless on and off. In addition
Start/Connect To/Show All Connections and right-click the wireless to
see what it's up to.

And if there's a wireless icon in the tray, right click on it and
try Start Utility, that has a bunch of pages what may give you a clue
what's up. It's self-explanatory after you've fought with it for
a few hours and get it working a couple of times.
