Well, technology is not any different here than there, but desktops ARE
different than laptops. With a desktop computer, when all else fails, the BIOS
password can easily be invaildated by either removing the system (usually) C2032
3v battery for a minute or two or setting a jumper in the CMOS reset position.
With laptops, this is usually not possible because the manuafacturer makes it
very difficult to reset the BIOS password by physical means (even after
disassembling) to prevent theft.
As to a master over-ride password, I might find it useful. For legal ends, of
course... ben Myers

Um, an Optiplex SX270 at work had the BIOS password locked by an.
employee who was on the point of dismissal (as he subsequently was).
The IT manager came down and was on the Windows XP welcome screen
within about 30 seconds. He told me there is a master over-ride
password to overcome exactly that situation; disgruntled (soon to be
ex) employees who think they're getting one over on the company.
This was 2 weeks ago............but this is the UK, maybe things are
different here?
