Big empty space in the control panel's Add and remove programs

my desk top is a Dell from 2003. my computer is running very slow. I've
noteced under the control panel where the Add and Remove programs is there is
a big empty space that takes up most the room in there. I believe this is one
of many reasions my computer is running slow. only problem is I don't know
how to get that big space off there. when I'm in the Add and Remove programs
window I'll click on the biggest file to show first and that big blank space
is first and at the very bottom is the rest of the programs. Does anyone know
how to get that big blank space off there?
