I1501 CPU upgrade question

Hello to all. I just purchased my daughter a refurbished I1501 with an AMD
Sempron 3500+ chip. It's kind of an unusual machine in that it has 2Gb of
RAM, a fairly large HDD (120Gb), a DVD burner, which seems out of place with
a Sempron chip. It was priced VERY reasonably and I'm thinking of upgrading
the chip IF possible to a better AMD chip. Will that motherboard accept an
upgraded chip? I've heard that the Sempron 3500+ is painfully slow. I just
got the machine yesterday, it's running Vista Home Basic, and I haven't had
a chance to see if it's REALLY slow, but i've read tons of reviews claiming
so.
Thanks in advance for any and all help, and as always, best regards.
Morey
