Re: Dell Latitude D600 bios problem

Did you take the adapter off of the old drive and install in on the new drive?

Thanks.

I'm beginning to think the new hard drive (like yours, a WD Scorpio
120 GB ATA) must be DOA, as the system worked when I replaced the
original hard drive.

I guess the bios isn't meant to be individually configured, as you
suggest. I'm used to the bios on a tower that could be individually
configured to identify the new components if it wasn't recognized on
start up. I'm going to return the hard drive for another.

Thanks.

Lisa

Configuration for the new drive should be determined automatically. If it
isn't showing up, maybe you've got a drive that far exceeds what the system
is capable of, or your drive is dead. As far as I know, the D600 takes PATA
disks and should handle any of those on the market. I'm not aware of a
mobile PATA hard disk that is bigger than 160GB. I've used a Western Digital
120GB Scorpio drive in my D800 without issue.

As far as I'm aware, the values for the hard disk in Dell setup are fixed
and determined automatically. Your new drive should be detected
automatically.
