OK, do you think 1GB RAM is adequate for Vista Home Premium?I only have 2GB RAM on my PCs, so I don't know how well 1GB of RAM
would work on Vista Premium, however, some people have said that if
they turn the Aero features of Vista off it runs OK. This would
probably be even more so if the PC has dedicated graphics that doesn't
use any system memory.
To modify what I said above, if the system does have dedicated
graphics then Aero would problably run OK on 1GB RAM. Note that some
graphics cards that advertise memory don't always have that amount.
Terms like "hyper-memory" often mean that it uses system RAM for part
of the stated amount. It's not always clear by looking at the web
page (at least not ATI's) so Google may be your friend.
I think you are mixing system memory and graphics card memory. With Aero, the most important thing is the *capability* of the card. The second is the amount of memory and the type that the card uses. Some cards (many that Dell includes) use system memory to augment the adapter memory. These should, IMNSHO, be avoided since self sufficient cards are so cheap these days.
It's really unusual to need more than 256 MB of video RAM. I have an NVidia GeForce 7600GS adapter with 256 MB (>$100) and it's great... 512 MB is a lot and really only needed for those who do a *LOT* of things like video editing, etc...
