Re: Moving Office 2003 from one Dell to another

no crossposting please. this reply only to alt.sys.pc-clone.dell, where it
was read.

if you purchased the office 2003 software from dell with the computer then i
believe that you are not allowed to reinstall it on an alternate computer.
however it does seem reasonable that if you delete it from the one machine
that you could then install it on the other, so check the end user license
for the details on the legality of doing this. technically you can do it
but do need the software and the product key. if the software came pre
installed on your dell you still had to enter your product key in order to
activate the software or it would not permit you to start office after 30
days. you can interrogate the machine for the product key used for
activation with a utility found on magicaljellynbean.com. you will need the
correct cd (same version of office, oem product keys do not work with retail
edition cds, or just different versions of office) to use this product key
and you will not be able to activate over the web if you done so recently.
you may have to call microsoft for activation. good luck.

Hello all,

In our small office (6 users) we have an unused Dell Win XP box with MS
Office 2003 installed on it (probably installed by Dell).

I want to uninstall MS Office 2003 from this unused machine and install it
on my computer that has MS Office XP installed on it.

If Office is installed by the manufacturer (Dell), do they supply separate
disks as if you bought Office separately or will Office be on the
"Original Software for ....." disk?

I'm guessing that I will have to locate the appropriate Product
Key/license in order to install it (just can't use any install disk with a
Product Key), correct? If so, how will I be able to tell if I located the
right one (we have several copies of MS Office 2003 (& XP) laying around
here)? Can I somehow get the Product Key from the computer (System
Information or other) so I can compare it to the sets of install disks
that I find and will know that I have the correct one?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide,

Conan Kelly
