Hello all,
A customer has dropped off an Inspiron B130 laptop that is having some
weird problems that has left me scratching my head to figure out what is
the root cause.
The customer said that it wouldn't boot windows so I figured, software
problem. When I plugged it in on my desk, I noticed that it doesn't even
boot... at all! Rather as soon as I press the power button the "Num
Lock", "Caps Lock", and "Scroll Lock" lights flash once at the same time
for a second and then go out. Also the hard drive light in the front
flashes once in synchronization with the other lights I mentioned. The
weird thing is that there is a muffled but yet high pitched "Squeaking"
sound each time I press the power button and happens the same time as the
lights flash.
Once I let my finger off the power button and after the lights have
flashed, the battery light begins a sequence of green and orange flashes.
It flashes the following:
<green-long><orange-short><orange-short><orange-short> and then repeats
the process all over again.
I'm left wondering, is there something wrong with the battery? When I
removed the battery the lights flash at once, but the above gree/orange
sequence does NOT happen. However no power still reaches the laptop. I
take it the powerbrick and battery are both bad?
Thoughts, suggestions, opinions??
Brad
