Re: Dell Quick Set

No, Ben's right. The page is very misleading as Number 1 is optional

Just adds unnecessary overhead.

This is very true, and maybe it's something that needs to be addressed
on our end. If you pull up the drivers list for a system model on our
support site it has a column listed as ?Importance?, and the NSS is
listed as Optional. The Importance classification isn?t necessarily
intended for reinstallation as much as for customers looking for
updates. We mark certain drivers as Urgent, Recommended, Optional,
etc, for people that are looking to update drivers or to resolve
issues.

The Notebook System Software is recommended (but not required) to be
installed when doing a clean install but once on it never really needs
to be updated, thus the ?Optional? listing that it has. The Dell
Notebook (or Desktop) System Software is Dell?s specific adjustments to
the Chipset to ensure the motherboard fully utilizes the features we
designed for it.

Journey, I tried to PM you about your outstanding issue but as you?re
an usenet poster computerbanter.com will not allow me to PM you
directly. Please let me know how your issue works out once you hear
back from the Unresolved Issues group. My team does not currently
post directly to newsgroups so there really isn?t much I can do to
provide my IP address or any other direct proof. I am pretty sure that
others that have posted to this thread have worked with members of my
team and can verify our actions and legitimacy.

We try to post general information that would be useful to a wide
number of our customers in forums and move to PMs / email when it gets
to the point that we?re working with individuals and private
information. Just as we don?t post our work emails to publically
accessible posts (can you imagine the spam we?d get?), we also don?t
want customers posting personally identifiable information or emails
where just anyone could read it.

I did not post the links via tinyurl, it appears that
computerbanter.com or the newsgroup edited the links once they were
quoted to save bandwidth. Links to all our drivers as well as the
Unresolved Issues form are available off our http://support.Dell.com
page and anyone that is experiencing an ongoing problem I highly
recommend that you fill out that form to get the help you need.
