Well, that IS more specific. I was heretofore unaware of the
definition
of
crap. Thank you for the enlightenment.
Let me be more specific.
The Optiplex GX270 motherboards are the ones that suffered from blown
capacitors, not the only ones in the industry to have failed this way.
Dell settled a class-action lawsuit regarding failure of the Inspiron
5150,
caused primarily by overheating CPUs, which operate at high clock
speeds,
some
as fast as 3GHz.
Some Dimension 4600s were flaky, for sure.
I have no idea who manufactures the Dell notebook boards, but a
significant
number of models of Dell desktop boards carry Intel AA part numbers,
indicative
that the board is an Intel design, albeit manufactured by one of a
number
of
large contract electronics manufacturers. Overall, Intel designed
boards
are
well regarded, but, they too, have designed some clunkers.
I have handled literally hundreds of Dell computers in the last 15
years.
Some
of them were abysmal designs, like the ones with the proprietary
faux-ATX
power
connector pinout. But in the same timeframe, literally every other
name
brand
company tried some proprietary approaches that failed.
What else ya got? ... Ben Myers

Crap = Feces. In this case. An analogy in reference to the bottom of the
line motherboards dell installs in their mainstream desktop computers.
I've worked with computers for 20 years. And the majority of people I do
business with has nothing pleasant to say about Dells motherboards. For
example. The terrible motherboards they released back in 05 with the bad
capacitors. And Dell finally replacing them after numerous complaints by
angry consumers.
Also a class action lawsuit brought on by dell laptop owners regarding
premature failure of the motherboards in some of their notebooks. Also
complaints and investigations regarding the problems with the dimension
4600
power supply and motherboard.
Don't get me wrong. I have two dells. An E510 and a XPS1210. Both are
fine.
But the E510 was inexpensive for a reason. I knew I wasn't getting a top
of
the line board and I had no problem with that. You get what you paid
for.
They contract out the board manufacturing from companies that come in
with
the lowest bid. They have the lowest bid for a reason.

Crap? Not too specific. Can you do better? Please explain in
terminology
used in the mainstream of the computer industry... Ben Myers

For quality. I would avoid all three. Have someone build you a good

Hello everyone.
I am going to buy a new desktop PC sometime in the next two months.
I
would like to know if there is something to be said about the
differences between HP, Dell and Acer in terms of desktops.
Are there diffferences when it comes to cost, quality of the
components and customer service.
I realize that this may be too wide a question. Your input will be
greatly appreciated.
I've been reading this group for several weeks now, and I must say, it is so
stinking funny. I have laughed my ass off at the Dell employees here. Wonder
if they're getting bonuses to cheer and defend Dell?
