Re: Will Dell replace Inspirons e1405,e1505,e1705 this year?

The Inspiron 2200 is anything but sturdy. I would not recommend it to anyone
who hauls a notebook around on the road for most of its use. In particular, I
do not like that you can literally twist the screen with a sort of torsional
twist, because it lacks reinforcing plastic.

I have no problem with the Dimension 2400 (or 2350) desktop. They were
inexpensive, but solidly made out of respectable quality parts, exception being
the occasional Maxtor disks that showed up in them. But all the major name
brands bought Maxtors. Certainly people who want better graphics than the
built-in 2400 video would not be satisfied, but it is perfectly fine for routine
computer use... Ben Myers

Why do you call the Inspiron 2200 lamentable?

I have that along with an older Dell Dim 2400 desktop.

Both were very inexpensive yet relatively trouble free.

One major advantage of owning a Dell notebook (except for the lamentable
Inspiron 1000, 1200 and 2200) is that you can download the service manuals
from
the Dell web site. To disassemble a Dell notebook, you need a couple of
really
small Phillips head screwdrivers and the service manual. Also a lot of
patience and a good memory for how it all goes back together. All that is
missing a some description of symptoms, causes and solutions, similar to
what is
in the IBM/Lenovo service manuals. But you would know the symptoms for a
loose
screen, follow the service manual for removal of parts that expose the
mechanism
holding screen to body of computer, and go from there.

And, just think, Dell charges big bucks for someone to become a certified
Dell
technician, just like Microsoft sells a whole stinking study course and
tests to
become a certified Microsoft weenie. Enduring these courses can make one
certifiable, but in a different sense... Ben Myers

Is Dell coming up with a new Inspiron laptop line to replace the current
line this year? Other companies are incorporating built in web-cams in
their
lines. Will Dell do this for the Inspirons this year or is it just going
to
be more of the same?

Right now Dell computers feel solid, and I like the looks compared to
the other laptops that are out.

Scratch that. On second thought, Dell could improve a bit on the
build qualilty. They are solid, certainly more solid than models from
the past. My prior 14" Inspiron P-M's screen hinges came loose and
the screen flopped around until I sent it in. The build of my current
laptop is good but I am very careful with how I adjust the screen. I'd
like to get more competant with fixing simple problems like that
myself.
