Re: OK, I give up

Home users? Rarely. Business users who need to print architectural drawings,
make posters, etc. Yes, more frequent than you can imagine. WOW! ... Ben

I spent part of yesterday putting XP back on my primary machine. I
actually liked Vista and it had some features that I liked, but I ran
into a device that I had to be able to use for which I could not get
Vista to work.

It's interesting, as it is an Epson 7600 printer and there are Vista
drivers for it. No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to recognize
the printer. Since I had promised to print a poster sized print for
my
nephew and I'd wasted a week with Vista, I couldn't wait any longer.

I had one other, truly odd problem, that I also could not fix. I put
a
spare hard drive in the machine as a data drive. A box stock Western
Digital -- in fact the original drive that came with the machine.
Vista, every time I rebooted or re-logged on, asked for drivers.
Yes,
for a hard drive. It could not locate them. Drive still worked, but
I
got this annoying error all the time.

For a hard drive!

I think for the average user, Vista will likely work fine. I plan on
installing it in dual boot to continue to play with it, but I have
work
to get done, so XP it is.

As an ardent supporter of Vista, I admit to being frustrated.

Refresh my memory, what were you RAVING Vista about <g> ?
Don't say I didn't tell you so..... <g>.

I still like it. I just hit an insurmountable wall with a piece of
obscure equipment. Can't imagine many home users have a photo printer
that will do 24" x 100' (yes foot) prints.
