I'm 44 years old and don't wear specs but I am just starting to struggle with really close objects (like viewing the image or settings on the back of my DSLR with the neck strap on) and may need reading glasses in a year or two. But for me I find the resolution to be fantastic and I have no problem with the text at standard font size. Before I got the M1710 I was using (and still do use) an Inspiron 8000 with 15" 1600*1200 display. I absolutely despise displays with less resolution than that. 1920 resolution on a 17" screen is fabulous. Dell even offers 1920*1200 on their 15.4" Precision M65 models so as long as your eyesight is kind of OK, or properly corrected I do not see any reason to shy away from the M1710.
I'm wondering if anyone bought one of these? My concern is the small native resolution of 1900X1425(?) Sorry, it's late and I forgot exactly if it is 1425. :) This model has a 17" screen.
Anyway, I know you can always change resolutions to be larger but often that will compromise the quality of the text or graphic a lot. So, I'm looking for opinions.
Thank you so much for your time!
What I would say is that unless you are a gamer and demand the screaming graphics you may as well get an Inspiron 9400 (E1705) with a 17" WUXGA screen and save yourself a packet.
p.s. Do not even think about running the screen on non-native resolution simply in order to increase font size. Just change the font size (DPI) in your desktop settings.
