I just formatted my Dimension 4200 hard drive and now it won't recognize
the dvd and cd writer.
i used a boot disk and formatted the drive. It loads the driver but says
no drives found.
Occasionally it finds 1 or both dvd/cd drives and it begin to loads win
98, then partway through
the drives disappears and the installation fails. I have just managed to
get win 98 loaded before
the drives disappeared so have win 98 installed but no dvd/cd drives
visable.
What if anything can i do to make it recognize the drives.

Always install the chipset driver first, after a format, before installing
anything else.
