Is it just me, or has nobody else complained about this problem? I'm
new to Dell, having been used to purchasing components instead, and
i'm somewhat disappointed that my purchase of a second graphics card
has led to the on-board one to become disabled (I want dual-monitor
support without paying for a dual-card).
I presume the on-board graphics can function independantly and I
therefore question why it is disabled when I plug in a second card -
is this a software/Dell restriction? Or is there really some hardware
restriction? Is there a way around this? (e.g. a patch to let me use
both together).
I think it's ridiculous that Dell should block me from using the on-
board card just because I gave them more money to purchase a second
card and a second monitor. It doesn't help that nobody at Dell cared
to notice my order included two monitors but they didn't scratch their
head over how I could use them together on my system.
Anyone else have similar complaints?
Most motherboards with integrated video do disable the onboard when a
video card is added. Not just Dell. virtually everything with onboard
video +an agp or pcie port. In some cases, it is configurable in the
bios, or with a jumper. But not usually.
In most cases this is the desired result, as the card is almost always
an upgrade from the onboard.
