Someone I know is at odds with dell... she knows little about computers..
bought a Dell package with Vista and found it runs like molasses. She a
friend of a friend so I may have the details wrong but from going onto
dells site, she most likely got the pc with the 512 gigs ram. These
systems start with 512 in the options and we know that won't do it.. So
how can they even sell that without a serious warning ?
How is it that she found you NOW rather than asking you before she bought
the system?
This isn't a new phenomenon for any OEM mfr.
I can count on two hands the number of HP/Sony/Compaq XP machines I've
worked on with only 256mb of RAM.
And to make the lie even bigger, I actually had a Dell 4500 (1.8GHz
northwood) with WinXP Home and MS Office that had just 128mb of RAM. I
thought it was a mistake. But no, running the tag over at
www.support.dell.com , there it was in the "original configuration" page.
It stinks, but the buyer bears some responsibility for educating themselves
(or by calling a friend/relative) before buying.
jmo.
