Hot on the heels of our Dell story yesterday, the computer maker has
announced plans to release PCs and laptops that ship with the Linux
operating system.

I find it completely laughable that anyone serious about Linux would want
Dell to install it for them rather than to do so themselves.

It is the software equivalent of a true, hardcore gamer buying an OEM PC for
that use. (*Voodoo PC and Alienware don't count).

The Dell customer blog was taken over by geek posters screaming for
Linux-loaded Dell machines to promote the OS (versus the MS borg) moreso
than to provide them (the posters themselves) with a product they need.

Anyone smart enough to effectively use/manipulate Linux doesn't need Dell,
HP or Gateway to pre-install the OS for them.

I'm guessing sales will be somewhere between underwhelming to modest at
best.

Functioning drivers for the hardware actually on the computer is a plus.
