I would like to change my drive letters,I have 2 optical drives,3 hard drives 1 is a external,also I am dual booting with XP & vista on separate drives,when I go in xp disk manager it shows a warning like " yours drives may not work" or something like that.I don't want to screw things up,heaven knows I have done lot of that.

As long as you are not changing the letter of drives where programs are installed, the impact should be minor, if any. Some programs may get confused because data has moved. I've never had a problem.
