of win2k and XP compared with 9x anything was a pretty compelling
reason to upgrade. Vista's selling point was supposed to be virus
proofing the PC at last (something OsX did for the Mac), but then
several antivirus vendors said that a large percentage of viruses will
still run on vista. And then OneCare gets the only failing grade of
17antivirus programs tested.... (missed 20% of viruses it was tested
against! egad!)
Well, Vista does try to take some steps towards limiting/prventing viruses
from running...although that's not the same as having a good AV program
running.
Still, Vista is based on XP/Win2k, so it's going to have the same
vulnerabilities.

Sort of. From what I've read the kernal has been almost entirely rewritten.
Still can't imagine it is secure.
