Thanks, Tom and Paul, for your response.
If I install win98 from the desktop it runs on the laptop. Why not with
winXP ?
As my Latitude C610 does no more support any CD drive, how can I have a
"restorable" backup of my XP system disk?

Hi folks,

I try to upgrade this laptop with a samsung 100Gbytes.
I install XP on the HD samsung using an IDE 3,5" to 2,5" adaptor on my
desktop computer, booting from the CD.
OK. I can restart XP on my desktop with this 2,5" hard drive, all is
correct.
When I try to boot the Dell Latitude C610 from this HD, it hangs up the
first time and tells me that "windows was not terminated correctly..."
the
following times.
I think that the video driver of my desktop is not compatible with the
ATI
video card of the laptop. I try to install it on the HD from the dektop
and
it does not run.
Is it the egg and chicken problem ?
Somebody can help me ?
Ok, first thing's first: your cd is clearly toast. Find another one,
then reload xp again, the right way. A CD from a wide range of
pentium 3 or Celeron Latitudes in this same generation will work, if
you have a friend with a same age Dell Latitude, borrow theirs.
The CDs for these things can still be ordered from Dell. and found on
ebay.
As Paul is saying, you CANNOT install Windows on a Desktop and expect the
hard drive to work on a laptop. Just won't work.
