As others have said, it's hard to justify spending $200 to "upgrade" an 8200. Unless you are currently severely memory constrained, going from 512MB to 1GB probably isn't going to get you a lot of improvement.
Another thing to consider is whether you can add memory. My 8200 (yup, I still have one) came with 256 and I upgraded it (long time ago) to 512. There are only 4 memory slots and they must be installed in pairs. If I were to want to add memory, I'd have to remove installed memory. Make sure that you nave slots available before you spend any $$.
You can get a screamer, fully loaded for $650 - $950.... There's talk of MS and/or PC vendors providing a holiday deal with a free upgrade to Vista......
If you want to pursue adding memory, try e-Bay. There are lots of RAMBUS 256MB & 512MB in the $20 -40 range....

I have a Dell Demension 8200. 2ghs processor, 512 512MB KIT RAMBUS PC800 (2PCS 256MB PC800 RDRAM.) I can buy another 512 for $196.00..
Or I can buy new Computer with a a faster processor with more Ram for anywhere from $500.00 Up.
Does RAMBUS Ram make that much difference? I don't game so I really haven't found anything this computer won't do. But, I was wondering if these so called starter boxes faster than the Computer I payed &2000 for 3 years ago?
Can anyone give me the low down on Ram and if it makes that big of a experienced?
Thank You,
