I wonder if there is a PCMCIA
card adapter that would fit in the Express card slot.

There is an adapter that allows you to use PCMCIA (or should I say 32-bit
CardBus) cards via USB:

It's expensive, approx $200 USD, and appears to have very limited device
support.
