no data from the hard disk would be lost, but the time/date, hard disk
settings default options such as state of num lock key, and other integrated
devices would resort to default settings or will have to be auto detected.
what model are you talking about. we can tell you where to get a
replacement and provide a link to show you how to install it.

What settings are lost if any. If the BIOS wasn't every changed then
there would be nothing lost correct. His computer is about 3 years old.
I have an old Dell D-300 still with the original battery about 8 years

When my son's computer first boots up even before window loads he gets a
message low battery hit F1 to continue. What battery is this referring
to? The one on the motherboard? He said it doesn't happen all the time.
