Thanks to you and to Christopher for the links to the outlet and the
specials pages. So, how do the 1100, 3100 and 5150 compare? And how do they
compare to a 4600? I want a good, robust machine that I won't have to
upgrade for a long time.
There are so many models!

Try the dell outlet (www.dell.com/outlet) . You can get a nice
Dimension 3100/E310 for as low as $309 with a 90 day warranty.

The 8100 is a Socket 423 Pentium 4, not much newer than your 4100.
It uses
expensive RAMBUS memory, no longer manufactured and hard to find. (I
sell RAMBUS now and then, but I do not sell it for really cheap.)
Simply stated, I
cannot recommend it at all. Spend the extra $100 on a 4600, still
somewhat
contemporary. Memory for the 4600 is cheap and easy... Ben Myers

Hi. I'm ready to replace my Dimension 4100. I've been quite happy
with the machine I have, but I've outgrown its limitations. My needs
are pretty ordinary - basic internet and document use. I do a little
bit of audio editing, but nothing for which I need anything really
powerful.
I'm hoping to buy a used machine. I'm seeing Dimension 4600s for
about $300, and 8100s for about $200.
Any recommendations?
Thanks,
