Hard Drive access Too Slow Dell Dimension 3000

The samsung harddrive is half the problem, if there are
too many errors, your primary/secondary IDE settings will
not be using MDA, even if you set it back to MDA, you will
probably find it will go back to the slower PIO settings.

Get to your Device Manager and goto the IDE controllers section,
make sure both primary IDE is set to try DMA (primary should be
Ultra DMA mode 5, secondary should be Ultra DMA mode 2).

If your machine is still under warranty, I'd get Dell to replace that
crappy samsung with a Western Digital (don't take their excuses,
demand it if necesary).

My Dimension 3000, is slow accessing the hard drives. I have for a long time
thought this was the case, but after using a HP Vectra recently with a 750
Pentium 3, less memory and a similar spec hard drive arrangement, than my
Dell, I am convinced there is something wrong with my machine.
