There isn't a driver for the monitor. What there is, is an .inf file,

If I look closely at my screen, I can see that a tiny section on the sides and bottom are not being used. I wanted to 'stretch' the screen a little bit using the monitor settings, but the Positioning feature is faded out. My monitor came with a CD-ROM labeled '1907FP LCD Monitor User Documentation.' I thought installing the driver on that disc would enable me to use the Positioning feature and a couple other options faded out.
Well, I couldn't find any driver on that disc. Loading the CD-ROM merely takes me to a Dell website that displays the user guide for the 1907FP. So I visited the Dell website and downloaded the latest display driver for the 1907FP. Double-clicking on the ZIP file did not launch a self-installation program as my instructions stated, so I had to do it manually. This driver was successfully installed, and now Device Manager lists my monitor as 'Dell 1907FP (Digital) instead of 'Default Monitor.' However, when I go back to the monitor menu, the Positioning option is still faded out. I learned shortly thereafter that if you use the DVI connection, that option, and a few others, are not available.
So basically I'm wondering what is the point of the driver I just installed? What is it supposed to do, other than inform Windows the name of my monitor?
Actually, I just found out after installing this driver that I am limited to a screen refresh rate of only 60 Hertz. Previously I had it at 75. That was enough for me. Using the roll back driver feature, I uninstalled it.
The user manual indicates that 60 Hertz is the value for the refresh rate at the "Optimal" preset resolution of 1280 x 1024 while 75 Hertz is the value for the refresh rate at the "Highest" preset resolution. The preset display area is 14.8 x 11.9 inches or 376 mm x 301 mm. As to the purpose of the Dell driver for the 1907FP, you would have to ask Dell. I also own the 1907FP and it has been awesome right out of the box, with the Dell Driver installed off the included CD. I have made no adjustments whatsoever to it.
which identifies the name and optimum resolution of the monitor.
