Re: Uh-OH-- did I get the wrong laptop cooler

Well, Eugene:

AREN'T YOU SPECIAL!!!
Glad you are enjoying your high-end stuff.

For me, I have a Dim 2400 and Inspiron 2200. I've had the former for about
4-5 years and that latter for over a year. I have had ZERO problems. ZERO.
They may be "low end" but for my purposes (word processing, spreadsheet, web
surfing, email, online poker) they both fit the bill perfectly.

I posted this because I often keep the laptop on my lap and yes it does get
hot. Generally the HD temperature is about 45 degrees C, but it has hit as
high as 50. My understanding is that this is not dangerous, but it is too
hot for my liking. The cooler actually fits very nice on my lap and even
without the cooler turned on it solves the "burning lap" issue.

As I said, I am very pleased with my low-end purchases.

I looked. Am I missing something?? The fan is on the bottom. Are there
vents elsewhere?? I didn't see anything specifically labelled as vents

I posted here earlier about a very nice laptop cooler I got through
EBAY. It is flat with 3 little fans.

It works great.

HOWEVER, I see a very similar product (maybe the identical one)
advertised on www.cyberguys.com

In the ad, it says DO NOT USE THIS IF YOUR LAPTOP HAS ITS COOLING
VENT
ON THE BOTTOM.

OK, I'm looking at my Inspiron 2200. There appears to be little holes
on the front each side. But there is also something on the bottom
that
could also be a vent.

Can someone enlighten me about this?? What are the holes in the front
(on each end) and the circular thing on the bottom? (Sorry for my
ignorance on all this. But the only thing more ignorant would be for
me to not ask this question!).

Finally, IF there is a vent on the bottom, then does that really
render my cooler unusable (it might be usable anyway as it is very
comfortable on my lap and holds the laptop perfectly!)

Mel

Check out the owner's manual at:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins2200/en/om/D88330a.pdf

This is also probably on your hard drive somewhere.

The holes that you see in the front are for the speakers. The bottom
and side views show where the fan and vents are.

Fan on bottom draws air in; hot air exhausts on the back panel?

Q

I don't understand this thread. I've owned literally dozens of laptops
and
have NEVER needed a laptop cooler. They seem like tin foil caps to me.

Tom
Some of the lower end inspirons (and low end from other brands) have too
hot
of processors because they fit the market for people who want a laptop but
don't want to pay more than a desktop for it. I've never needed a cooler
either but I research my purchase and don't buy based on price alone.
