I'm looking at a new desktop, and I've heard that the AMD chips are
much more efficient than Intel's. Dell uses Intel but Hewlett Packard
has an AMD option. How do HP's computers stack up to Dell's?

Personally, I prefer HP for a number of reasons. I like the AMD chips,
and I
like the way the HP website is organized so that software and drivers are
easy to locate, and relevant.
HA! They remove and hide drivers once they think a system is obsolete,
(too soon) . Just TRY to find a driver for a Riptide Modem. Go on, I
dare you. Sometimes they have a driver update. But it requires the
original driver. They've gotten better in recent months, but they're
still overall terrible.
The vast majority of the systems i spec and
buy are servers,
I suppost they're better to their server customers.....

And to add to that, I've yet to locate any suite of diagnostics for HP
desktops/notebooks on their site. If those exist, I sure can't find them.
Dell provides two versions; a small version on the machine itself and the
full diags on their website. Sounds like no big deal until you need them.
