Re: OT WinTV and Beyond TV Setup

Hope you dont mind 1 more question , is there a way i can watch tv in a
small window whilst surfing the net..for some reason I can't seem to do both
at the same time. Maybe a limitation of using only media center like you
suggested?

If you have Media center, then yes, you can use it instead of BeyondTV.
I find BTV more powerful, particularly two things:

1) MCE is limited to two Standard and two High-def tuners
2) This one is more complicated. With MCE, ALL guides must match. For
example, I have a cable box going into one tuner, standard cable going
into another tuner and Hi-Def over-the-air into a third. With BeyondTV,
they all can have their own TV Guide and it knows what shows to schedule
on what tuner. With MCE, there can only be ONE guide, so you literally
cannot do what I just described.

But for one or two tuners, MCE is fine.

I need to ask this , I have windows media center , why can't I just buy
the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2 and let media center control the tv
schedule? What is the biggest reason to have Beyond tv as well? Does the
software that comes with this pvr not have any stock tv scheduling
program besides the ability to use media center? I am not going to use
this often and don't want to spend the extra 80 bucks if I don't have to
as I can get the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2 with media center remote for
100 bucks or even less. Thanks a lot for any input.

Absolutely.

There are TWO USB versions. You want the more expensive one.

This is what you want:

http://store.snapstream.com/btv-usb2.html

Comes with the proper USB2 tuner, BeyondTV and a Firefly RF remote to
control the whole thing. This is, essentially, a PVR-150 in an
external case. The 150 is newer than the 250 (oddly).

I have two 250, one 150, one 500, two USB2 and a Dvico Fusion USB HD
tuner.

Is this usb dvr as good as the hauppauge 150 or 250 pci version? I
too want to get a pc dvr but don't want to open up my pc so is this
one the best choice to get and do i need tv software with it? May I
ask where you bought the setup below and what was the cost? Thx a
lot.

My new Dimension 9150 should arrive tomorrow :) Based on Tom
Scale's and others recommendations here, I bought the Hauppauge
WinTV PVR-USB 2.0 and Beyond TV 4 bundle, with the Firefly Remote
from snapstream for my new Dell.

WinTV seems to have its own software for scheduling, etc., which is
what Beyond TV is supposed to do much better. Any tips for getting
the Best setup the first time around?

The 9150 has an nVidia Geforce 7300LE card that will be connected to
my old Dell P992 19" Trinitron analog monitor for now. I have Cat5
cable to all rooms over a 100Mbs network. What's the easiest and/or
best way to connect to my non HD TV.

Thanks, Pat
