Re: OT WinTV and Beyond TV Setup

According to Tom Scales, a regular here, this is a great single tuner setup
using USB2. I bought the whole package direct from www.snapstream.com which
makes the Beyond TV software for $180 with a free Firefly remote and
Shipping. It was a 4th of July Special, which of course you can still get
today! (Now expires 7/11/2006)

From my understanding the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-USB 2.0 uses the same hardware
decoder as the 150 or 250 pci versions, so they should perform the same,
save any USB connectivity problems.

I believe the WinTV PVR-USB 2.0 comes with it's own scheduling software,
etc., but the Beyond TV software is much better, even better than MS XP MCE.

The FedEx guy just dropped off my new Dimension 9150 and the Beyond TV
package should arrive on Monday, so I will post back with my results. I
have been using my TiVo's to record then transfer to my PC for editing and
burning to DVD, but this should remove some of the long download times to PC
and the sometimes corrupted file transfers.

I'm hoping Tom will post some tips for my new "toys".

Thanks, Pat

Is this usb dvr as good as the hauppauge 150 or 250 pci version? I too
want to get a pc dvr but don't want to open up my pc so is this one the
best choice to get and do i need tv software with it? May I ask where you
bought the setup below and what was the cost? Thx a lot.

My new Dimension 9150 should arrive tomorrow :) Based on Tom Scale's and
others recommendations here, I bought the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-USB 2.0 and
Beyond TV 4 bundle, with the Firefly Remote from snapstream for my new
Dell.

WinTV seems to have its own software for scheduling, etc., which is what
Beyond TV is supposed to do much better. Any tips for getting the Best
setup the first time around?

The 9150 has an nVidia Geforce 7300LE card that will be connected to my
old Dell P992 19" Trinitron analog monitor for now. I have Cat5 cable to
all rooms over a 100Mbs network. What's the easiest and/or best way to
connect to my non HD TV.

Thanks, Pat
