Inspiron 8600 clock stops on standby

It appears that the system clock on my Inspiron 8600 stalls while
on stand-by. If I am connected to Internet, when it gets back up
active, the correct time is obtained from the Internet automatically.
But if it's not connected to Internet when it awakes, then the system
clock simply starts from where it left off at the time of going into
stand-by and therefore shows wrong times until the next connect
to the Internet. Since it doesn't go back to a default time but simply
stalls at the time showing when it went into stand-by, I don't think
it is a battery issue - in any case, the machine is connected to the
AC source all thorought the time during the stand-by and the result
is the same. Does anyone have a solution for this or does anyone
even have the same problem? Thank you in advance.

PS To get around this, I set the system never to go into stand-by.
But this is not ideal.
