Re: Problem with acronis true image

alright! The computer is fixed. It kind of got fixed by accident
though. What I did was I made a bootable disc, but the thing was I
forgot to include some files on there, so the boot disc didn't work.
But right after that it proceeded to boot using the hard drive and it
said PBR 2...done and windows started to boot! So after windows
booted, I went to the computer management and looked at all the
partitions. Somehow I had assigned the dell backup partition a drive
letter, so removed the drive letter and it worked! The computer boots
up fine now. Now all i need to do is delete that dell partition.
Thanks for the help everyone!

Today I tried using Acronis True Image 8.0 on my dell inspiron e1705.
I wanted to backup my hard drive, so what I did was I created a Acronis
SecureZone, which made a seperate partition just for backups. I
created my backup and proceeded to reboot the hard drive. When I did
this, the OS didn't want to boot. All I got was the message "pbr 3...
done 8.0" What does this error mean and how can I get rid of it so I
can boot my OS up again?

Not enough info for a full diagnosis, but at the least, it means the wrong
partition is set active. You might try going in with Disk Director and
seeing which partition is set active. The msg suggests it is 3, when it
probably should be 2.

I think Acronis Secure Zone isn't incompatible with Dell's DSR (PC-Restore)
partition. (I don't use Acronis products, though, so take that in context.)
It has to do with both wanting control of your MBR. The "pbr 3... done" is
a telltale sign of the Dell MBR (I've seen no other MBR that uses that
text), but normally it should say "pbr 2" when booting the XP partition.

I can't access the dell backup partition that came preinstalled, i'm
guessing because when I created the new partition dell's backup
partition had to move.

The space for the SZ probably came from the main XP partition, so the Dell
DSR partition was probably untouched. Did you try Ctrl+F11 when you see the
blue line just after POST? If so, what error msg are you getting? That can
probably be repaired if your interested, but if you want to use SZ then
you're probably better off dumping the DSR partition altogether.
