Toying with the idea of finally upgrading

Some of you may or may not have read my recent post about looking for a
video card upgrade for my Dimension 8100 1.5GHz. I purchased the 8100 oh,
possibly 5+ years ago. It may have been a bit longer or even shorter I
forget. Anyway when I purchased the 8100 it was the "latest and greatest"
for about a week or so after receiving it. It's still not a bad box but
from what I hear it's not even considered "entry level" these days.
Rather than purchase a video card upgrade, I've been toying with the idea of
upgrading to another latest and greatest power box with all the bells and
whistles. Since I was happy plugging along with my Dimension 8100, I
haven't paid much if any attention to the PC industry and how far it has
advanced. I also haven't visited this NG for quite a while but I can
remember past posts (3, 4, 5 years ago?) about bitching and moaning about
how Dell's quality and customer support has gone down the tubes. Is this
still true? Are there still satisfied Dell customers that have purchased
recently?
Sooooo, should I consider another Dell or look somewhere else? I was poking
around on the Dell site and it looks like the XPS 700 is a Monster! Would
that be in the "latest and greatest" ballpark? :-)
Someone poke me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Kevin
