Well, it's a friend's computer, and it had all kinds of viruses on it,
mostly thanks to it having no AV software on it at all
Hey ho... that`s pretty much how every machine i`m called in to fix
comes to me :-}
I`ve got some info on my own personal experiences of locking down
machines on my site, as well as links to the various apps I use and
recommend - congrats on the choice of Kaspersky - they`re VERY good.
Anyway, my site is at http://www.coreutilities.co.uk
If the internet access is still buggered, and if you don't want to go to
the trouble of reinstalling, try googling for these...
lspfix winsock2 repair util.zip
WinsockxpFix.exe
XPTCPREP.EXE
Hopefully any of the three should be able to get it back online.
Good luck :-)
PS: depending on how old the machine is, you might be able to get it to
"factory fresh" condition by pressing CTRL-F11 (IIRC) when you first
boot up - machines built after about June 2004 (?) had a restore
facility built in.
