Re: newbie question about axim

Yeah, that royally ticked me off. They claim it's for security reasons. So
the technology exists to transmit my credit card and banking information
around wirelessly, but not to sync my e-mail? Something's not right. Now
admittedly, it may be easier to turn off the functionality rather than make
it secure, but that seems to be a pretty cheesy design decision. Or easier
to turn it off entirely, rather than allowing the use of a security
policy... I mean, really now, how difficult is it to have ActiveSync on the
desktop check a domain security policy to see if it's ok to transmit the
information wirelessly? And if the network-nazi's want to turn that
functionality off to protect their user's precious e-mail, they can do that.
Then if I don't care if someone reads my personal e-mails as I sync with my
home account, that's fine too. But NOOO, they have to just turn it off
globally...

They, oddly, do claim that. Seems like a decision I should make, not MS.

Also, MS claims that removing the WiFi ActiveSync was a feature, so it
seems doubtful they'd fix it in a patch. I'm not expecting to see this
back till whatever the next generation is, if ever.

Hi Clint, I did some web searches and you're right. I think I am
confusing bluetooth sync vs. wifi sync. There are posts saying that
wifi sync only works for Activesync 3.x. I believe that is what is
supposedly restored in the 4.2 beta. Thanks for clearing that up.
