Re: installing dell resource cd

I did get the Sound Card drivers to work. I will try some more things
tomorrow for the ethernet adapter, the PCI Communication and video
controller..

No, it just needs to be first. You'll need them all.

I havent had a chance to download anything today. I hope i get a chance
tonight to download the chipset and install it tonight. Will the chipset
contain other drivers? The device manager indicates i need the video
controller, pci comm controller, ethernet controller, and multimedia audio
controller.

the display devices are the actual monitor not the video drivers so
unless you have a specific dell monitor you don't need them even then
it will display fine on generic drivers, with your original problem you
did install the chipset drivers 1st and then rebooted the machine didn't
you?

Thanks for the help. I put in the service tag and all kinds of drivers
came up. Some i can determine which ones I need. However, the display
devices, how do i determine which one of those i need to download and
install. It lists about 20. I went to System Information but there was
nothing listed for the display, nor was there an entry for the sound
device.

I you put your Service Tag into the site, it will tell you exactly what
drivers you need.

Thats a good idea. When I figure out exactly what i nweed , i can
download them on another computer, burn a cd and hopefully install
them on the Dell. Thanks....

Your best bet is to completely ignore the CD. Go to
support.dell.com and download the latest drivers for each device and
install them. The drivers on the CD would be very out of date.

I noticed in the Search Criteria of the Dell Resource CD, the System
Model options are All, Optiplex GX520, Optiplex 210L, Optiplex
GX620. The model of the system I am working on is GX60. Will one of
the models on the CD install what I need on my GX60 or do I have the
wrong cd?...thanks

Optiplex GX60

I recently had to fdisk and reformat the hard drive. I was able to
get Windows XP installed. However the Dell Resource CD is another
story. I ran the setup, and it seemed to install just fine. The
drivers for the Ethernet Controller, Multimedia Audio Controller,
PCI Communications Controller (which there are 2 entries for
this), and the video controller did not install.
I went to the help file and it said unzip and install the Desktop
System Software first. I unzipped the files and it was installing
until it popped up a window that says..."Setup Cannot Run On This
Machine" I also unzip some other files to the Dell directory but
nothing so far as seemed to work.
I just changed ownership of this machine through Dell and they
sent me the 2 restore CD's. Any chance they sent a wrong disc?
Does anyone have any idea how i can get all the drivers installed?
